Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side travel to the Emirates to take on an in-form Arsenal side on Saturday evening.
Arsenal have failed to win any of the last nine Premier League
meetings between the two sides, although Arsene Wenger’s men did beat
Chelsea in the Community Shield last season.
The Gunners have also picked up four red cards in the last five league matches against the Blues.
Both sides sit on 10 points in the table and both successfully navigated EFL Cup third round ties on Tuesday night.
A second-string Arsenal team comfortably saw off Championship side Nottingham Forrest 4-0.
Lucas Perez scored his first and second goals for the club, while Granit Xhaka
scored a long-range screamer for the second game running. Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain also got his name on the scoresheet to complete the
rout.
Chelsea faced a trickier match against Premier
League champions Leicester City, although both teams rested a number of
regular starters.
The Blues fought from 2-0 down to win the match 4-2 after extra time, with Cesc Fabregas scoring a brace.
Fabregas, of course, played for the Gunners for eight seasons. The Spaniard is yet to start a Premier League match so far this season.
Team news
Petr Cech will return to goal to face his former side. The shot stopper spent more than a decade at the Stamford Bridge club.
All four of Arsenal’s starting defenders received midweek breaks and
will start against the Blues, although a fit again Gabriel Paulista
gives Wenger an alternative.
Alex Iwobi looks set to continue his run of Premier League games, while Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will also return to the side.
Olivier Giroud is a doubt for the match but could feature on the bench alongside Perez.
Oxlade-Chamberlain could be rewarded for his fine
goalscoring performance with a start on Saturday, although a rested Theo
Walcott will provide competition on the right.
Like Chamberlain, Fabregas’ midweek display could see him replace Oscar in Conte’s three-man midfield.
Diego Costa will replace Michy Batshuayi up front, though the Belgian forward could be used out wide.
John Terry looks set to miss out again through injury, with David Luiz continuing alongside Gary Cahill in defence.
