The former Lazio man reflected upon his time at Old Trafford and admitted that he regrets heading for the exit door so early in his Red Devils career

Former Manchester United playmaker Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted that he regrets leaving the club after just two seasons, joining Chelsea for £15 million in 2003.

The former Argentina international joined the Red Devils two years earlier in 2001, arriving from Lazio amid high hopes about his quality but the midfielder failed to nail down a first-team spot at Old Trafford, eventually leaving after his second campaign.

But Veron now believes that his departure was premature and admitted that he should not have left the club, instead staying to find a consistent level of performance.

“If I had one frustration it was that I had highs and lows every season," the 41-year-old said in an interview on the club's website. "I was never at a high level throughout the whole season. But I should have stayed at United and not left.”
